Victoria Peak is the most prominent landmark when you are in Hong Kong. Locally known as “The Peak”, it has recently become an area of interest for local and foreign tourists who come to tour Hong Kong for holidays. The peak has also become a desired residential place for the locals because of its beautiful landscape.

Located in the southwestern part of the Island, Victoria Peak is the highest peak on the island that soars up to a height of 552 meters. With about five million visitors a year, this place is now one of the biggest and grandest tourist attractions of Hong Kong. The Peak offers an outstanding view of the city and its bay from its high regions.

There are also a bunch of exotic birds which can be seen flying around and decorating the airs and sky of Hong Kong in their radiant colors. The ever popular Black Kite and a variety of beautiful and rare species of butterflies are commonly seen towering the peaks. Victoria Peak offers secluded parks filled with forests of bamboos, pines and vines, daisies and lilies to the locals of Hong Kong, making it a favorite romantic spot for weekend lovers on a sunny day.

Victoria Peak covers up other areas such as Victoria Gap and Mount Kellet where some of Hong Kong’s wealthiest residents live. This is a great hang out spot for lavishly hosted dinners and parties all attended by elite Hong Kong residents, foreigners and tourists as well. For real estate brokers, Victoria Peak is one of the best places to invest in terms of properties because of the high priced value assets on the peak.

There are in-house restaurants on Victoria Peak too; one of them is the Peak Lookout Restaurant. This restaurant used to be a rooming house and workshop for the British engineers who once worked on the development of the Peak Tramway. In the late 1940’s, the place was rebuilt into a restaurant and has since then become a place for tourists to relax and enjoy a good meal overseeing the beautiful Hong Kong skyline.

Other special restaurants in Victoria Peak are Kyo Hachi, Tien Yi, Pearl on the Peak and the western Burger King.

Victoria Peak is the best place to view the night scene on Hong Kong Island. To reach the Peak, tourists can ride the Peak Tram which offers a wonderful view ascending the peak. The Peak Tram has been in operation for over a hundred years now and not a single accident has ever been reported, so you are ensured to have a safe travel up there. The travel time from the bottom of the mountain to the top would take you eight minutes. From above the peak, you can see the whole city of Hong Kong glittering in neon lights along Victoria Harbour.
